Performing Arts - Acting

Acting as a course area focuses on developing the skills and techniques required to perform effectively on stage or screen. It encompasses a range of practices, from understanding character development to mastering physical and vocal techniques. Acting courses provide both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing students for a career in theatre, film, television, or other performance arts.

There are many elements to the performing arts area and depending on the level of course that you start with us you can look forward to studying many topics during your time with us. This dynamic and exciting area allows you the opportunity to develop your acting, vocal and physical technique as well as studying approaches to character and text.

Through practical performance-based workshops you will develop a variety of acting styles and techniques. As a performer you will also be required to undertake independent rehearsal and research to stretch and challenge your individual potential.

Major productions and devised performances throughout the course will allow you to apply the skills and knowledge you gain. Our team of teachers will be able to offer knowledge, experience and expertise and you will also develop skills and techniques with industry specialists who will come in and work with you. This course is designed to develop your practical skills, knowledge and understanding of the performing arts within all three areas of the dance, singing and acting. You will also have the opportunity to explore the production side of how the industry works and the process of how we reach a final performance.

You will build your confidence and creative skills in a range of practical workshops whilst gaining valuable experience in a variety of live performances in our state-of-the-art Evolve Theatre. There will be opportunities to take part in both internal and external performances as part of your course. This is a great way to provide you with fantastic exposure within the industry.

You will be assessed through a range of practical and written assignments. External moderation of some units is likely. The form of assessment on the course will assist you as you progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications.

You will need performance clothing: black movement trousers (leggings or joggers), black t-shirt, jazz shoes are optional. The college has a variety of play texts and reference books available in the Library at The Broadway Campus and through your tutors. You will be expected to attend theatre visits as part of your wider theatrical education and costs will vary.

The progression table shows you all of our creative, performance and media subjects along with the levels you are likely to study at depending upon your final GCSE grades. Offers will be made based on your indicated grades and the levels available within the progression table.
