Course Summary

This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards a career in Mechanics. It is a level 3 qualification designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. This VRQ also provides the knowledge requirements for its related VCQ and forms the knowledge component of the IMI Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (for Light Vehicle). Course Content

This qualification includes the following modules:
Advanced Chassis Technology
Advanced Engine Technology
Advanced Transmission Technology
Advanced Electrical and Electronic Technology with an emphasis on diagnosis and rectification of system faults.

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification are made up of 3 components:
a. IMI Awards set Practical Tasks
b. IMI Awards set Online Testing
c. IMI Awards set Written Assignment (Coursework)

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided. You will need to provide your own stationery and your own safety shoes/boots (with steel toecaps) and overalls.

Qualifications

Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ).

Progression

This qualification will lead to employment in the industry of motor mechanics or to further study/higher education.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification learners must have Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2 or equivalent. You will need Literacy and Numeracy skills at level 2 to be able to organise written information clearly. Prior to enrolment on this course, you will need to have an Initial Assessment in Literacy and/or Numeracy. This will ensure that you are enrolled on the right level of course to succeed and help us to identify and provide any support that you might need. Experienced technicians with no formal qualifications may contact the course tutor for interview.
