Course Content
The ESOL Level 1 course content is meticulously structured to provide learners with an in-depth understanding and application of the English language in various contexts.
Reading: Learners will engage with a diverse array of text types, including complex narratives, formal documents, and analytical pieces. The course aims to develop critical reading skills, such as identifying main ideas, understanding implicit meanings, and evaluating arguments.
Writing: Students will focus on producing well-structured and detailed texts, including essays, formal communications, and reports. They will enhance their ability to present information logically for different audiences, use a range of sentence structures, employ descriptive language effectively, and apply accurate punctuation and spelling.
Speaking & Listening: The course enhances learners' ability to communicate confidently in a range of situations. Students will practice understanding nuanced spoken language, expressing information and opinions with clarity, and participating in discussions and presentations to improve fluency and comprehension.
Each module is designed to challenge students and provide practical exercises that apply these advanced language skills to real-life scenarios.
Course Assessment
The end of course assessments will be ESB (English Speaking Board) ESOL examinations which are externally set.
Initial assessment is carried out to decide on the most appropriate level for you to study.
Full support is given throughout your studies with regular reviews of your progress. Ongoing assessments, tasks and tests will take place throughout the course to allow your tutor to monitor your progress.

Materials
All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide a notebook and a pen, and a dictionary is recommended.
Qualifications
Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded the ESB Level 1 Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life. This qualification is is awarded after demonstrating a high level of competency in Reading, Writing, and Speaking & Listening. Throughout the year, students' skills are rigorously assessed to ensure they meet the stringent standards set by the ESB. The final exams are a culmination of the students' hard work and are scheduled only when they are fully prepared, guaranteeing they approach these assessments with the utmost confidence and a comprehensive command of the English language.
Progression
After completing the ESOL Level 1 courses, learners can move on to our Vocational ESOL courses as well as progress into the Adult Functional Skills department and to continue improving their English skills.
Entry Requirements
To ensure the highest quality of learning and outcomes, all prospective learners for our ESOL Level 1 courses will undergo an initial assessment to ascertain their current level of English proficiency. It is crucial for learners to be 'working towards Level 1' to be eligible for the course. This assessment is instrumental in customizing the course content to cater to the individual needs of each learner, providing a robust foundation for their advanced language development.
