Course Summary
Working in the animal industry is an increasingly popular career choice. This one-year course is designed for students wanting to work within the animal sector. It develops knowledge and understanding of the industry and individual animals as well as developing the research skills that are invaluable for working within a zoo or research environment.
Course Content
This qualification includes the following modules:
Business environment
Animal husbandry management
Animal health and welfare
Research project
Animal nutrition
Anatomy and physiology
Principles of ecology
Exotics and the pet trade
With strong links with Dudley Zoo, Brockswood Animal Sanctuary, The Owl and Falconry Centre and The Animal Man Group, students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of work and animal experiences to enhance their learning throughout the programme.
Course Assessment
The assessments for this qualification are a series of written assignments with some practical work and presentations.
Materials
All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide sturdy, waterproof footwear such as boots and warm clothing and PPE for practical work.
Qualifications
Animal Management BTEC HNC - Level 4
Progression
This qualification will enable progression to an HND Animal Management programme or a second year of a degree programme.
Entry Requirements
For entry onto this qualification learners must have over 64 UCAS points through one of the following routes: BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management (MPP or above) or A levels in biology or access to HE science. Plus, you must have GCSE maths and English at grade C or above.
