Course Summary
Aspire’s Working Towards Construction course is designed for young people who would benefit from small group sizes or have a special educational need or disability. The course is based between Aspire Brierley Hill & The CAT Centre. Construction offers students the opportunity to develop their practical skills in carpentry, bricklaying and painting and decorating as well as developing their knowledge of health and safety and employment skills. All ‘Working Towards’ courses help to prepare students for onward study and their progression onto higher level courses, or employment, and include communication and study skill development as well as literacy and numeracy.
It aims to develop a range of skills within construction to prepare for further study or employment within the sector. Students' benefit from dedicated time in a practical workshop as well as undertaking project work in the local community working in a team.

Portfolio based assessment. Functional Skills formal assessment if appropriate to the student’s level of ability.
Materials
PPE suitable for a construction environment – toe-capped boots, eye protection, safety gloves, tape measure, hi-vis waistcoat.
