Course Summary
Engineering shapes the world around us, from the machines at the heart of industry to the electronic devices we use at home – engineering is the future.
You’ll be using industry-standard technology as you work on exciting practical projects, studying a diverse range of engineering areas such as machining, maintenance, and manufacturing. It’s the perfect start to a career in engineering.

The course is delivered through workshop-based practical sessions. Where evidence is built towards the L2 NVQ Diploma in Engineering.
Course Content
Students will cover the following units:
• Working Safely in Engineering
• Carrying out Engineering Activities Effectively and Efficiently
• Using and Communication Technical Information
• Producing Components using hand fitting techniques
• Preparing and Using Milling Machines
• Preparing and Using Lathes for Turning Operations
Course Assessment
Time in college will be spent working within the Advance 1 workshop. Learners will produce a portfolio of written and practical evidence.
Materials
You will need to supply your own workshop overalls and steel toe capped boots for use within the workshop.
Qualifications
C&G L2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations
Progression
This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the Engineering industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an Apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualification gives the learner the opportunity to progress onto further advanced courses and training.
Entry Requirements
• 4 GCSEs at grade 3 and above including a grade 4 in either maths or English.
• You will need to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for this subject area.
