Course Summary
This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards becoming a qualified Lead Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).
Course Content
An induction session will take place. The content of this will aid the completion of the first unit which is a knowledge unit; at the end of the session participants will able to:
· State the role and responsibilities of the Internal Verifier and the responsibilities required to Lead a team of IQA’s.
· Identify and use verification documentation including sampling documents.
· Identify sampling techniques.
· Understand each stage of the quality assurance process
· Understand the requirements for planning, monitoring and where required adapting to change for a team of IQA’s
You will then be assessed on a 1:1 basis whilst you build your portfolio of evidence; this will include at least one observation from your assessor whilst you are observing and providing feedback to one of your assessors, a second observation will be required to observe you planning with your team of IQA’s and/or being observed making changes to previously planned arrangements to support and uphold quality assurance within the area.
The Centre you are working for will need to provide you with sufficient guidance and support in the IQA of: qualification standards; planning records; sampling records and any other documentation that they expect you to complete. They will allocate the IQA team you are to lead and at least two assessors for you to quality assure who must have at least two learners each. You will take a lead role in the quality assurance of a single qualification as well as supporting the IQA team in additional qualifications that they are responsible for sampling. Responsibilities both as the lead and as an IQA for a specific qualification will include maintaining the Centre records, arranging standardisation activities and monitoring IQA and assessor CPD records. You will also need to demonstrate that you have taken part in appropriate CPD activities for your own development and evaluate your development.
Course Assessment
You will complete a knowledge unit and build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence as an IQA and the lead IQA in your area. Your portfolio will also include at least two observations of your performance.

Materials
A ring binder, dividers and plastic wallets (if you want to use them) will be required to build your portfolio. A course reference book will be beneficial for the knowledge unit - ‘Achieving your TAQA Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer Award’ – Anne Gravells. (Approx. £20)
Qualifications
City & Guilds Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
Progression
This qualification will lead to employment in the industry of Assessing or to further study/higher education
Entry Requirements
You must be working as an IQA with the additional responsibility of leading and monitoring the IQA Practices and Processes in your area, before you can enrol on this course. You must be in a position to guide and support a team of IQA’s and be responsible yourself for supporting and sampling at least two assessors delivering the same qualification t a group of learners.
You should hold the latest QCF Assessor Award or Certificate, A1 Assessor Award or D32/33. You must be in a position to conduct Quality Assurance of vocational assessment activities and be occupationally competent in the subject you intend to IQA.
Your manager will provide you with the support of a qualified IQA, who is occupationally competent within the sector, to countersign your work. It should be noted that as a trainee Lead IQA you will need to be in a position to be able to plan the teams IQA activities as well as monitoring and intervening where changes need to be made. You will also need to maintain, evaluate and improve quality of assessment in your qualification area.
