Diploma in a Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector Level 1
This qualification is intended for learners who wish to explore their interest in the hair and beauty sector. It will help you gain an insight about the industry; learn useful basic skills and relevant back ground knowledge.
Course Content
The course consists of a variety of Hair and Beauty units:
• Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
• Presenting a professional image in a Salon
• Shampoo and Conditioning
• Plaiting
• Styling Women's Hair
• Colour Hair using Temporary Colour
• Health and Safety
• Working with others in the Hair and Beauty Sector
• Create a Hair and Beauty Image
• Skin care
• Basic Make up Application
• Manicure
• Nail art
Course Assessment
You are assessed by a variety of methods including:
• Practical observations
• Oral questioning
• Written modular tests.
• Production of a portfolio of evidence
You are expected to take part in the college's work experience programme and open days during your course of study.

Materials
A Hair and Beauty kit is required approximately £178.58 along with a protective dress code/clothing approximately £48.
Progression
You will need to select between the following routes:
NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing
VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
