Course Summary
This course is designed for students who want to pursue a career in science or find out more about the world in which they live. It is designed to give a broad understanding of biology, chemistry and physics topics and of scientific principles used in research and work.
Course Content
Studying on our GCSE Science Pathway will develop and build your knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will develop essential knowledge in Science including methodology and practical skills that can be applied to the world around you. We will provide you with the best opportunity to learn the topics, develop your critical thinking and have access to support from tutors and technicians.
This specialist GCSE pathway has been designed to give you the skills you need to build a career in Science. Our labs and classrooms are fantastic facilities to learn and develop your talent. Career paths include working in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Ophthalmics, Engineering, and Dentistry.
Course Assessment
You will also be required to take part in a number of required practical that form part of your final examinations. This GCSE is assessed at the end of the course by completing two 1 hour and 45-minute exams. The exam papers contain a variety of questions including multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response.
Materials
The college will supply appropriate text books. You are expected to use a wide range of resources including the college library and iPoint Centre. You will need to provide your own scientific calculator and general stationery. A lab coat is provided for use in practical work.
Progression
Studying a GCSE qualification with us will enable you to progress onto further study. Your teachers will support you in ensuring you reach your goals and make the progress required to take your next steps in learning or employment. You will benefit from having a weekly tutorial with your pastoral tutor who will provide the additional support to enable you to be successful.
Entry Requirements
To study on our GCSE Science Pathway, you will ideally have already achieved GCSEs at a minimum of grade 3 in Science, English and Maths. For mature candidates any relevant work experience or prior learning will be considered at interview. You will have the opportunity to study Maths and / or English GCSEs alongside the pathway if you need to improve your current grade.
