Course Summary

This Level 2 qualification - Skills for Further Study in Health is designed to develop students underpinning knowledge and skills in preparation for progression onto the Access to HE Diploma in Health. You will also need to develop English and Maths skills to progress onto the Access to HE so it is suggested that you do any upgrades alongside the programme gaining the necessary qualifications to progress academically onto level 3 study and University.

This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards a career in Health.

The Pre- Access programme will enable you to develop essential and transferable skills that will help you to progress onto the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Health Care Science/ Nursing.

It will help you to gain a broader understanding of health and care with underpinning theories for practice that you will need to progress onto further vocational study at the next available entry point.

Course Content

The course is built up of a range of underpinning health related units such as an introduction to; Health, & Sociology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and Health Care practice.

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification will be assessed through a variety of methods to include; portfolio building, essays, in class assessments, presentations and discussions. The assessment strategies will enable you to develop the skill level required to complete the course and progress onto the level 3 programme.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided although some Materials and other additional costs are relatively low. Being organised is key to success. So we would recommend that all learners invest in the following:

• Access to lap top/ computer and internet
• Memory stick
• Folder, paper and pens for note taking

Qualifications

Pre-Access courses lead to a national qualification (the QAA-recognised Certificate in Skills for further study in Health) which is accepted as a standard entry qualification onto the Access to HE Diploma in Health/ Nursing.

Progression

This qualification will lead to employment in the industry ofHealth or to further study/higher education. Successful completion of the Pre- Access programme and Functional skills at level 2 will enable you to apply for a place on the Access to HE Diploma

Entry Requirements

Pre Access to health courses are designed to enable learners who have been out of education for some time and that may have few or no qualifications to potentially gain entry to the Access to HE Diploma in Health/ Nursing when the course is complete.

The suitability of applicants will be assessed through the combination of an application form, interview, and an initial assessment.
