Course Summary

The ESOL for Retail course is designed to provide non-native English speakers with the language skills and knowledge necessary for a career in the retail sector. Course Content

The ESOL for Retail course integrates language learning with essential retail knowledge. Learners will explore various aspects of retail, including understanding different types of retail outlets and the supply chain, and the contribution of the retail sector to the economy. The course covers effective customer service practices, maintaining health, safety, and security in retail settings, and managing stock control and replenishment. Through practical exercises and real-world scenarios, learners will gain the skills needed to operate effectively in a retail environment, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Course Assessment

Assessment for the ESOL for Retail course includes a combination of written assignments, practical tasks, and the development of a portfolio of evidence. Learners will demonstrate their understanding through creating informational materials, participating in role-plays, and completing worksheets and projects. The portfolio will document their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of their skills and knowledge. All assessments are internally marked and externally moderated to maintain high standards.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide a notebook, pen and folder and be able to organise your work neatly in a folder.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion of the ESOL for Retail course, students will be awarded the NCFE Level 1 Award in Retail Knowledge. This nationally recognised qualification demonstrates the learner's understanding of fundamental retail concepts, effective customer service, and health and safety practices. It provides a solid foundation for further study and enhances employability in the retail sector.

Progression

Following the successful completion of this qualification, you will be enrolled on the higher-level Retail SWAP Programme. This is a 10-day course, building on your Retail knowledge and supporting you to try and find a job within Retail. You must be committed to attend everyday Mon - Fri for 2 weeks and participate in an interview at the end of the course.

Entry Requirements

Prospective learners must take an initial assessment to ensure their English language proficiency is at Entry 3 level or above. Additionally, an interview with the tutor will be arranged to discuss the learner's motivations for the course and assess their commitment. This process ensures that all participants are prepared and motivated to succeed in the ESOL for Retail course.
