Course Summary
This Course introduces the learner to carpentry and joinery skills. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.
Course Content
To achieve this diploma you must achieve all specified units:
1. Principles of building construction, information and communication,
2. Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools,
3. Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools,
4. Produce woodworking joints,
5. Health, safety and welfare in construction
Functional skills/GCSE in maths and English • Work experience • Performance improvement programme.

• Practical examination
• Online examination/test.
Materials
Protective clothing, footwear and folder, note pad and pen are required.
Qualifications
Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery 6706-13
Progression
Progression will be onto the Level 2 Carpentry qualification or into an apprenticeship.
Progression will depend on set criteria of passing the level 1, Good attendance, Good punctuality and positive attitude to learning.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
