Course Summary
This course will to introduce you to a variety of different approaches to art & design. It is designed for students who perhaps have never tried this subject before but have always had a keen interest in it. The course will also develop and support your English skills enabling you to progress on to higher level courses such as the Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design.
Course Content
You will have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of skills that will include drawing, painting, mixed media, graphic design, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Through these activities you will learn the most important skill of all; how to see and respond to the visual world. Research using the internet and library resources will form part of the learning programme. You will be looking at the work of other artists to inform and inspire your own work
Course Assessment
Assessment of project work will take place regularly throughout the course. You will complete a final major project that takes place towards the end of the course.
Work is assessed by course staff throughout the year. However, as well as the actual work made, key opportunities for staff to assess your progress will be made through:
• Group tutorials
• Group discussions and presentations
• Written work
Materials
There are a number of essential items needed for this course. A tailored starter pack is available to purchase from the college (this will contain essential equipment). Letters are issued at enrolment which include details of content and costs.
There is an expectation that learners take part in educational visits tailored to their programme of study. The costs for these vary and can be compulsory.
Qualifications
BTEC Entry Level 3 Extended Certificate in Art & Design
Progression
After sucessfully completing the course you can progress on to the Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design.
Entry Requirements
2 GCSEs at grade 1 or above and a keen interest in the Creative Industries is essential. However, all applicants will be interviewed and should bring with them examples of creative work.
