Course Summary

This apprenticeship is suitable for front line care staff who provide leadership, guidance and direction to others and are instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support. They may have delegated responsibility for the standard of care provided and/or supervise the work of others. Job roles are varied and can be in many different types of the service including residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.

Once the apprenticeship is complete, the learner will have gained experience as well as being a fully trained care worker. This will greatly improve career prospects. Adult social care is a growing sector, and one that offers increasing opportunities for progression. Many advanced apprentices go on to take up supervisory or first line management roles

Course Content

The new Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Standard for Lead Adult Care Worker consists of the following qualifications which will be completed through a mixture of internal training, on-site observation, completion of a written portfolio, classroom based learning, online exams:
The Care Certificate
•Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care,
•Functional Skills in English at Level 2
•Functional Skills Mathematics at Level 2

The apprentice will be trained internally by the employer, assessed and observed in the workplace by Dudley College assessors. Apprentices will comlpete scenarios in the work place, have discussions with assessors regarding policies and procedures and produce a written portfolio of work for marking. There is an assessment at the end of the programme to complete and the learner must successfully complete a professional discussion about the evidence they have collected throughout the apprenticeship.

Course Assessment

The End Point Assessment should only commence once the apprentice has developed all the knowledge, skills and behaviours defined in the apprenticeship standard.
To help determine whether the learner is ready for End Point Assessment a meeting will take place involving the line manager, training adviser and any other appropriate managers from the employer.

The Care Certificate must have been achieved, as well as Diploma and a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths before being entered for the final apprenticeship assessment. The End Point Assessment will consist of:

•A multiple choice situational judgement test
•A 45 minute professional discussion, which will include the self-assessment and testimonies from people they support.
•The apprentice’s manager should also be present at the professional discussion.
•The apprentice can be awarded a pass, merit or distinction

Entry Requirements

The Advanced Apprenticeship is relevant to those who wish to progress from the Intermediate Level. If you are already working in the social care sector, you can speak to your manager about the possibility of starting an Advanced level Apprenticeship in social care, as part of your career development.

It is a requirement of the funding and the framework that apprentices must be employed. You will be expected to study while you are at work.
