Course Summary

This course will provide a Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician the knowledge and skills to - plan, select, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and Gas heating systems. Plumbing and domestic heating technicians can find themselves working inside or outside a property. Customer service skills and being tidy and respectful are important qualities as they can often find themselves working in customers’ homes as well as on building sites.

Upon qualification the successful candidate will be a competent Plumbing and Heating Technician, this will include having the knowledge and skills for the installation of plumbing and heating systems includes accurate measuring, marking, cutting, bending and jointing metallic and non-metallic pipework. Appliances and equipment can include gas, oil and solid fuel boilers as well as pumps, heat emitters, bathroom furniture or controls as part of a cold water, hot water, and central heating or above ground drainage and rainwater systems.

Course Content

Within this qualification candidates will develop their knowledge skills and also behaviours through various tasks.
Knowledge elements include – health and safety, core plumbing skills, electrical components and control systems, plumbing science and process’s, principles of environmental technology systems, principles of fossil fuels, customer service and communication.
Skills elements include – safe working, core plumbing skills, electrical components and control system techniques and supervisory skills.
Behaviours will include – honesty and integrity, dependable and responsible, enthusiasm and positive attitude, quality focus, willingness to learn, work with others and sustainable working.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion of this qualification candidates will be awarded a Level 3 Plumbing & Domestic Heating qualification to include the Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician Stanadard Apprenticeship Certificate.

Progression

On completion of this standard, apprentices can progress to a wide range of employment opportunities, or move onto full or part-time further education.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements are GCSE English and Maths Grade 3
