Course Summary
Aspire’s Working Towards Horticulture & Conservation course is designed for young people with a special educational need or disability and is based between the Aspire Houses, Broadway and Saltwell’s Nature Reserve, Netherton. Horticulture & Conservation offers students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the environment, growth cycles. land and plant maintenance, grounds-work and conservation. All ‘Working Towards’ courses help to prepare students for onward study and their progression onto higher level courses, or employment, and include communication and study skill development as well as literacy and numeracy.
It aims to develop a range of skills within horticulture & conservation to prepare for further study or employment within the sector.

Portfolio based assessment. Functional Skills formal assessment if appropriate to the student’s level of ability.
Materials
PPE appropriate for being outdoors – footwear, rain jacket, warm clothing for winter months, gardening gloves.

C&G Skills for Working Life E2/E3/L1 (Award, Cert, Ext Cert or Diploma)

Introductory Diploma in Land-based Studies
Supported Internship
Entry Requirements
Completion of a needs assessment and successful taster session.
