Pillar 6:  Investment for the Future

Our Progress To-date

In the overall management of our Estate, we have been successful in applying and securing the following funds from government to support our progression to net zero:

  • FECTF funding of £8.8m with an additional £628k awarded following to thermally upgrade our existing flat roofs and replacement window programme at our Broadway campus to reduce heat loss as part of building fabric upgrades. This has been factored into the sizing of the new Air source heat pumps. The funding is also sustainably refurbishing 12 The Broadway for SEN provision and E Block as a new purpose-built Animal Studies Centre
  • Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation 3b grant of £2,020,17 to replace the life-expired fossil fuel with an Energy Centre and Air Source Heat pumps, in addition to heat emitter upgrading internally to allow better thermal comfort following the switch
  • FE capital allocation grant of £471k to improve energy efficiency across our Estate which has been further contributed towards the works carried out under Salix PSDS 3b
  • Salix Low Carbon skills Fund grant of £327k to produce Heat Decarbonisation plans for all our buildings with life expired fossil fuels (gas boilers). In addition, detailed design to for decarbonisation of two of our older blocks at The Broadway D & F
  • Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation 3c grant of £598,747 to  carry out further decarbonisation of two of our older blocks at The Broadway D & F
  • The outputs from Low Carbon skills Fund Heat Decarbonisation plans will inform a decarbonisation strategy for our portfolio.

Our future actions

Our next steps are to:

  • Cost out our route to net zero and make provisions in the budget to do so
  • Continue to apply for grants as they arise to increase the pace of activity that is reliant on larger scale investments for our Building Fabric upgrades and replacement of fossil fuels.
