Course Summary
Painting and decorating involve applying paint, wallpaper, and other finishes to enhance the appearance of interiors and exteriors. This process not only improves aesthetics but also protects surfaces from wear and environmental damage. Key steps include surface preparation, choosing the right materials, and applying techniques for a professional finish. Painters and decorators may also incorporate design elements like textures and patterns to create unique looks, making it an essential part of interior design and home improvement.
Course Content
There are many elements to painting and decorating and depending on the level of course that you start with us you can look forward to studying many of these topics during your time with us including:
• Health, safety and welfare in construction
• Principles of building construction, information and communication
• Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
• Preparing surfaces for decoration
• Applying paint systems by brush and roller to non-complex areas Level 2
• Applying foundation and plain papers
• Producing specialist decorative finishes
• Access equipment
• Preparation of surfaces for decoration
• Application of surface coatings
• Application of papers to walls and ceilings
• Producing decorative colour effects
Course Assessment
You are assessed by a variety of methods including: • Practical observations • Oral questioning • Written modular tests. • Production of a portfolio of evidence • Internally and externally set assignments and/or examinations • A period of work experience between 50 and 450 hours depending on the level enrolled onto.
Materials
Protective clothing, footwear and writing materials are required.
