Course Summary
Construction is the process of building or assembling infrastructure, such as homes, commercial buildings, roads, and bridges. It involves various stages, including planning, designing, and executing projects using materials like wood, concrete, steel, and more. Construction professionals, like builders, architects, and engineers, work together to create safe and functional structures.
The construction trades suit individuals who enjoy hands-on work, have practical problem-solving skills, and can work as part of a team. They’re ideal for people who like working in dynamic environments, have an eye for detail, and are interested in building and shaping physical spaces. Those with good coordination and a strong work ethic thrive in this field.
Candidates should consider which of the trades they wish to study, visit the CAT Centre on one of our open events and talk to our knowledgeable tutors. Progression routes through the levels of study are indicated in the progression section below. Applications can be submitted for the individual trades’ programmes on each of their pages: Brickwork, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Plumbing.
