Construction is the process of building or assembling infrastructure, such as homes, commercial buildings, roads, and bridges. The construction trades suit individuals who enjoy hands-on work, have practical problem-solving skills, and can work as part of a team. They’re ideal for people who like working in dynamic environments, have an eye for detail, and are interested in building and shaping physical spaces. Those with good coordination and a strong work ethic thrive in this field.

Candidates should consider which of the trades they wish to study, visit the CAT Centre on one of our open events and talk to our knowledgeable tutors. Progression routes through the levels of study are indicated in the progression section below. Applications can be submitted for the individual trades’ programmes on each of their pages: Brickwork, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Plumbing.

The table shows you both the construction and engineering area routes along with the levels you are likely to study at depending upon your final GCSE grades. Offers will be made based on your indicated grades and the levels available within the progression table.
