Course Summary

The Level 2 Diploma in Care provides an opportunity for you to develop your skills and knowledge in the workplace. Apprentices will work as part of a team working directly with users of services in a range of care and support settings including day care, residential care, dementia services, learning disabilities services and also in individuals’ own homes.

This course will enable the apprentice to help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person centred care. This apprenticeship provides an ideal entry into the occupation and supports progression within the sector

Course Content

The course involves: Respecting and promoting rights, values and behaviours, communication, safeguarding, championing the health and wellbeing of individuals and work colleagues and professional development.

This new qualification focuses on the essential technical knowledge, technical competencies and skills as well as underpinning behaviours required to be successful in an Adult Care Worker role.

Apprentices will complete the Apprenticeship standard Level 2 Diploma Adult Care Worker. Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths which will also be provided through Dudley College. Apprentices then undertake a mandatory end-point assessment once the Diploma, Care Certificate and Functional Skills have been achieved.

Course Assessment

During your apprenticeship you will be trained internally by your employer, assessed and observed in the workplace by Dudley College assessors and complete scenarios, discussions and a marked written portfolio of work. You will also need to pass an assessment at the end of the programme and successfully complete a professional discussion about the evidence that you have collected throughout your apprenticeship. This end point assessment will be carried out by an independent company but will be arranged by Dudley College.

The new Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Standard for Adult Care Worker consists of the following qualifications:
The Care Certificate
Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care,
Functional Skills in English at Level 1
Functional Skills Mathematics at Level 1

Progression

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Standard for Lead Adult Care Worker

Entry Requirements

To undertake this apprenticeship you will be required to have a DBS, completed the Care Certificate and be employed in a suitable care setting.
Apprentices will also need to acquire Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths unless they already have grades A-C/4-9.
