Course Summary
The Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement (Award) is designed for experienced light vehicle technicians who wish to develop specialist knowledge and practical skills in working with electric and hybrid vehicle systems.
As electric and hybrid technology continues to expand within the automotive industry, this qualification equips technicians with the advanced understanding required to safely diagnose, repair and replace high-voltage components in light vehicles. The course combines technical theory with practical workshop application, ensuring learners can work confidently in line with industry standards and manufacturer procedures.

Course Content
The course typically covers:
• Health and safety when working with high-voltage systems
• Legislation and safe working practices relating to electric and hybrid light vehicles
• Construction and operation of electric and hybrid vehicle systems
• High-voltage battery systems and associated components
• Diagnostic procedures and fault-finding techniques
• Removal and replacement of high-voltage components
• System testing and verification procedures
• Use of specialist tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Course Assessment
Assessment is carried out through a combination of:
• Practical assessment tasks within a workshop environment
• Knowledge-based assessments or online testing
• Observation of safe isolation and repair procedures
• Learners must demonstrate a thorough understanding of high-voltage safety and the correct procedures for system repair and replacement.
Materials
Students will be required to have:
• Safety boots and appropriate workshop clothing
• Basic stationery for classroom-based learning
• All specialist high-voltage tools, diagnostic equipment and PPE required for training will be provided by the college.
Qualifications
Level 3 Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement (Award)
Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally need:
• A minimum level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Accident Repair or MET
• Relevant industry experience as a qualified technician
• Prior training in electric/hybrid vehicle awareness or high-voltage safety
Applicants may be invited to attend an interview to confirm suitability and prior experience.

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:
- If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
- If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
- If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).
Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.
English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
