Teaching Assistants work across primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision and further education settings. They support learners individually and in groups, helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours.
What will Apprentices Learn?
Apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to effectively support teaching, learning and pupil development.
Training combines workplace practice, professional coaching, observations, structured learning and college-based delivery, ensuring apprentices can confidently apply their learning in the classroom.
The programme is delivered in the workplace.

Apprentices learn how to support learners effectively, adapt teaching strategies, promote engagement and contribute to raising achievement across the setting.
Learning combines expert guidance with practical classroom experience, enabling apprentices to add value from the outset.
We'll work with you to ensure training supports both organisational priorities and individual development goals.
Qualifications included:
As part of the apprenticeship, learners work towards a recognised qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning alongside achievement of the apprenticeship standard. This develops both the practical and theoretical skills required to succeed in educational settings.
Entry Requirements
Apprentices should be employed in a suitable role that allows them to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the occupational standard.
Apprentices should also hold a grade 4 or equivalent in both GCSE English and maths (or Functional Skills English and maths).
Apprentices may be required to work towards English and maths qualifications as part of their apprenticeship where appropriate. We will provide advice on the requirements that apply to your apprentice and support them throughout their learning journey.
How is the Apprentice Assessed?
Apprentices are assessed throughout the programme through workplace practice, professional reviews and achievement of the required qualifications.
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) includes:
• Knowledge Test
• Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence
These assessment methods ensure apprentices can demonstrate the full range of knowledge, skills and behaviours required of a competent Teaching Assistant.
