Course Summary

Plastering is the process of applying a mixture of water, sand, and cement (or gypsum) to surfaces like walls and ceilings to create a smooth finish. It serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, providing a durable surface that can be painted or decorated. There are different types of plastering techniques, including traditional wet plastering, dry plastering (using plasterboards), and decorative plastering (such as stucco). Proper preparation and technique are key to achieving a quality finish.

Course Content

There are many elements to plastering and depending on the level of course that you start with us you can look forward to studying many of these topics during your time with us including:

• Prepare background surfaces and mix plastering materials
• Applying scratch coats to internal backgrounds
• Fix sheet materials
• Apply floating coats to wall
• Apply setting coats to wall
• Quantities and communicating with others
• Building methods and construction technology
• How to carry out safe working practices in construction

Course Assessment

You are assessed by a variety of methods including: • Practical observations • Oral questioning • Written modular tests. • Production of a portfolio of evidence • Internally and externally set assignments and/or examinations • A period of work experience between 50 and 450 hours depending on the level enrolled onto.

Materials

Protective clothing, footwear and writing materials are required.
