Development Sister at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, formerly an Access to HE student at Dudley College
When I was younger I always wanted to become a teacher, however after that didn’t work out for me, I spent a lot of time in the health care sector, caring for people, and realised that nursing was the career I wanted, however I hadn’t got the entry grades I needed for university.
I discovered the Access to HE course at Dudley College and I’m so thankful they run this course for people like me who want to go to uni but haven’t got the entry qualifications. I would not have gotten into university without this qualification and would not be where I am today.
My proudest career moment so far was definitely getting my Sister role after just 18 months of being qualified. Also the happiness you feel when you manage to save a patient's life is like adrenaline.
To anyone thinking of doing an Access course to get into nursing, just do it! It’s hard, it’s challenging but ultimately, it’s an amazing career path and you can change lives.
