Course Summary
This 16 week course is an excellent starting point if you are new to electronic payroll. Learn on the most up to date and premium version of Sage Business Cloud payroll software, combining taught classes combined with on-line tools to learn in your own time and at your own speed.
You will learn the underpinning knowledge of payroll processing, for example tax codes and how they work, NI contributions and their calculation.
This knowledge is important so that you know how statutory payroll works within the software. The course can enhance your employability, progress your career or help you to learn how to run the payroll system for your own business.
Course Content
You will learn:
• Introduction to payroll
• Employment legislation including Maternity and Paternity Pay
• Data Protection, Security and Confidentiality
• An introduction to Real Time Information (RTI)
• Preparing Employee Records
• Calculation of Gross Pay
• An overview of processing the payroll – Income tax
• An overview of processing the payroll – NIC
• HMRC PAYE and NIC Calculations
• An overview of Voluntary Deductions
• Leavers
• An overview of completing the processing of the payroll
• Preparing to Pay employees
• Reports and payments due to HMRC
Course Assessment
To be awarded this qualification, learners must successfully achieve the following assessments:
• Portfolio of evidence
• Skills-based assessment

Support materials will be provided, access to the Internet is required for practice and development of skills.
Qualifications
On successful completion of this course you will achieve a VTCT Skills Level 1 Award in Computerised Payroll for Business (SAGE).
Progression
On completion of this qualification you could progress onto the following course:
• Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Payroll for Business (RQF)
Entry Requirements
This qualification does not require you to have any prior qualifications or levels of prior learning. There is no minimum or maximum age requirement for this qualification.

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:
- If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
- If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
- If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).
Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.
English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
