Course Summary

Music as a course area encompasses the study and practice of creating, performing, and understanding music across various genres and forms. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, offering you a comprehensive education in both the art and science of music.

Course Content

If music is your passion you should consider a career in the music industry providing, our courses provide you with the opportunity to develop practical skills whilst gaining a broad knowledge and understanding of the music industry. Weekly technical workshops will focus on the development of musical, production and compositional skills. There is an emphasis on application of these skills through live projects, productions and performances providing excellent vocational experience. . If you are a passionate musician who is looking for the opportunity to develop your musical, technical and performance skills in both a solo and ensemble environment, then look no further.

• performances in a variety of live venues and within studio recording sessions
•understanding the music industry
•develop ideas for your own business
• operate professional standard studio equipment
•compose your own music using industry standard software.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of practical and written assignments. External moderation of some units is likely. The form of assessment on the course will assist you as you progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications.

Materials

All reading materials for this course are available from the college library. You will be required to pay £30 towards educational visits. You will also need to provide your own specialist musical instruments, excluding drum kit and keyboards. A pair of headphones and a data drive are essential.

The progression table shows you all our creative, media, performance arts and production arts subjects along with the levels you are likely to study at depending upon your final GCSE grades. Offers will be made based on your indicated grades and the levels available within the progression table.

Entry Requirements

• No GCSE results for Level 1
• 3 x GCSEs at grade 3 including English and/or maths for Level 2
• 4 x GCSEs at grade 4 including English and maths for Level 3
• 5 x GCSEs at grade 4 including English and maths for T Level, Level 3
• For those whose grades will allow entry at level 2 or 3 there will be a requirement to submit a digital audition video post application
