Course Summary
This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards a career in Motor Vehicle. The course is designed to give you the knowledge and understanding for the Diploma in Automotive Maintenance.
Course Content
Automotive Vehicle Servicing and Repair forms part of the suite of Awards offered by IMI. You will study the following:
Vehicle Systems
Removal and refitting of vehicle components.
In addition National units in Maths and Science are available if required.
Course Assessment
The Assessments for this qualification are practical and online testing.
Materials
All students are required to supply overalls and suitable footwear (not trainers) for workshop classes.
Qualifications
IMI Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance
Progression
Learners can progress to a higher level of learning such as a Level 2 Certificate or Diploma and also supplement their progress to GCSEs and other appropriate destinations, such as apprenticeships and employment.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:
- If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
- If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
- If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).
Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.
English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
