Course Summary

The Level 2 Diploma in Professional Barbering have been designed by employers for learners wishing to pursue a career as Barber.
Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. Hairdressers and barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair.
They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

The Diploma will lead to the achievement of the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standard alongside the relevant functional skills.
The Diploma for Barbering Professionals covers all of the core knowledge and skills needed to become a competent Barber, providing the learner with the opportunity to develop different skills by choosing from a selection of optional units.

Course Content

The following units will be achieved
• Consultation
• Shampooing, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp
• Cutting Hair using Barbering Techniques to Create a Variety of Looks
• Style and Finish Men's Hair
• Cut Facial Hair into Shape
• Shaving services

Course Assessment

The Diploma covers all of the core knowledge and skills needed to become a competent Barber.
The apprentice's progress and development will be assessed throughout, using a range of assessment methods and this will include the following:
• Assignments, activities, exams, reflective discussions and observations in the workplace, classroom and commercial salon.
This qualification also includes an element of End-Point Assessment (EPA) which is assessed by a City & Guilds Independent End-point Assessor.
Performance in the EPA will determine your overall apprenticeship standard and grade of Pass or Distinction.

Materials

The Apprentice will be required to purchase the uniform and kit for the programme. The cost is as follows:
Uniform approximately £48.00
Barbering Kit approximately £190.00

Work as a barber and work towards becoming a senior barber.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the Hair Professionals Level 2 course are as follows:
• Employed as an Apprentice in a Hair Salon
You must demonstrate good presentation skills, show a genuine interest in the barbering industry and display a positive attitude to study. Gain an Initial assessment in Maths and English at L1/ L2 or GCSE grade 4 or above and a willingness to continue your studies in Maths and English to improve your grades.
