Course Summary

This qualification will provide the maths entry requirements for the Access to HE provision based out of the Institute of Technology. You will gain skills in reading, writing and speaking maths accurately at Level 2.

This is a 17-week programme, based out of the Institute of Technology that will allow you to complete the course in preparation for the Access programme.

Course Content

As part of this course, you will improve:

• Learning to deal with everyday maths
• Your IT skills
• The necessary skills to help prepare you for joining other college courses
• Your employment prospects
• Your confidence

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification include on-going continuous assessment and practice exams throughout the year and a final exam.

Initial assessment is carried out to ensure you are at the correct level for the course. Full support is given throughout your studies with regular reviews of your progress.

Qualifications

A recognised qualification from City & Guilds Level 2.

On successful completion you will move on to an Access to HE course.

Entry Requirements

Prior to enrolment on this course, you will need to have an initial assessment in maths. You will need to achieve a level that demonstrates you are ready for the level 2 functional skills programme.

*Can I get help with fees?

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:

  • If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
  • If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
  • If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).

Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.

English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
