Course Summary

The hydraulics (Automation) modular course is designed to support learners who have an interest in hydraulics and/or are employed in the engineering and manufacturing sector, specifically aligned to automation. Learners may have completed a previous engineering qualification and wish to progress to higher level qualifications, or to develop knowledge and skills required to work in industries where there are requirements to adopt automation.

Course Content

Learners will gain a greater depth of understanding of the principles and practical methods used in hydraulics circuits, automation, and control. The course is based around Festo hydraulics Rigs allowing fault finding and the building/testing of practical circuits. The main areas covered are:

A. The examination of the technology and characteristics of hydraulics circuits and control applications used in industry.
B. The investigation of components used as well as the design considerations and simulation of hydraulics systems.
C. The development and testing of circuit designs and the identification of hydraulics components used in industrial systems.

The course content includes the following topics:

• Safe working practices for hydraulics systems
• The technology and characteristics of hydraulics components
• The design of hydraulics circuits.
• Fault finding on hydraulics systems
• Setups and functions of: single/double - acting cylinders, valves, pressure sequence valves, pressure regulators and hydraulics timers.

Course Assessment

No Assessment (College Certificate)

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification learners must have a keen interest in hydraulics (Automation). It would be beneficial to have an understanding of Industrial Robotics/Electrical engineering, but not essential.
