Course Content

This qualification includes the following modules:

1. Know hybrid system components and operation
2. Know how to work safely on hybrid and related vehicle systems
3. Know how to carry out maintenance and repair activities when working on hybrid vehicles

This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards a career in motor mechanics. This level 2/3 Award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair hybrid technology vehicles (not the actual hybrid system).It contains two mandatory units EV2.2 and EV3 to give the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle's hybrid system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. On completion of this qualification, technicians will have gained knowledge of high voltage hybrid technologies and an understanding of their dangers.

These qualifications could also provide the essential knowledge and skills for members of the emergency services who may attend an accident involving a high voltage hybrid vehicle.

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification are IMI External Testing (online) plus 2 practical assessments in our workshop (Level 2/3)

All class-based materials will be provided.

Qualifications

Level 2 and 3 Award in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Operation and Maintenance.

Progression

This qualification will lead to employment in the industry ofMotor mechanics or to further study/higher education, including the L4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification learners must have should already have vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at level 2.

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:

  • If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
  • If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
  • If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).

Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.

English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
