Course Summary

This course offers the opportunity for adults to study a full GCSE in chemistry following the AQA specification. This course is suitable for adults wishing to gain a qualification in chemistry that may be a requirement for other careers such as teaching or nursing. It can be studied alongside GCSE Biology as well. Also, when studied along side maths and English GCSE an ideal outcome will be the student gaining 4 GCSEs for entry onto level 3 courses.

Course Content

The GCSE Chemistry course includes the following subjects:-

1. Atomic structure and the periodic table
2. Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter
3. Quantitative chemistry
4. Chemical changes
5. Energy changes
6. The rate and extent of chemical change
7. Organic chemistry
8. Chemical analysis
9. Chemistry of the atmosphere
10. Using resources

Course Assessment

This course is examined at the end of the year in May and June with two exams, both 1hr 45mins each.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion you will achieve a GCSE grade from 1 to 9 in chemistry.

Progression

Learners completing this course often go on to careers in health and education.

This course is ideally suited for learners that are working towards their GCSE in maths and English.

  • If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).

Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.

English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
