Course Summary
This Apprenticeship involves carrying out skilled work, primarily using timber products, either on a construction site, or in a workshop, creating and installing building components. This is a core and options apprenticeship, with two pathways:
Pathway 1: A Site Carpenter will normally work on a building site, or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components, from the initial erection of a new building, through to the installation of all necessary fixtures and fittings, as well as a range of repair and maintenance activities.
Pathway 2: An Architectual Joiner will normally work in a Joinery workshop creating timber products such as windows, doors and staircases in preparation to be installed on site. A joiner will be required to use a variety of tools and machinery in the manufacturing of these timber products.
The course will develop your knowledge and skills associated with Carpentry & Joinery introducing you to the various tools, equipment and materials you would use. You will initally develop your basic woodworking skills working towards more complicated tasks dependant upon your chosen pathway. The knowledge and skills that you will learn on the programme will support your development within your working role as a Carpenter or Joiner.
Course Content
The course is split in to 4 specific areas –
Core occupation duties – duty 1 – 10 to include – joinery requirements, material handling and location, preparation, use and maintenance of tools, install components, install doors and mouldings, erection of inclined roofs and quality checks.
Knowledge – K1-14 to include – health and safety, legislation, principles of building, how to estimate, communication, hand tool, power tools, first fixing and second fixing.
Skills – S1-11 to include – safe working practices, planning, safe usage and storage of tools and materials, fundamental skills, first and second fixing and floor coverings and joists.
Behaviours – B1-7 to include – communication, team working, independent working, logical thinking, working effectively, time management and adaptability.
The delivery during the programme will cover all aspects of these duties and KSB’s the tasks performed throughout will cross over between them to cover the full range required.

Course Assessment
The End Point Assessment consists of 3 discrete assessment methods.
The individual assessment methods will have the following grades:
Assessment method 1: Knowledge test

Assessment method 3: Interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

There will be a requirement to have equipment necessary for the classrom based activities such as: Scientific calculator, pencils, Black ink pens, ruler, maths set, rubber, coloured highlighters, A4 project book, A4 leaver arch folder.
Qualifications
Upon successful completion the candidate will achieve an industry recognised Level 2 qualification.
Progression
Learners can progress onto the Advanced Carpentry & Joinery Standard Level 3
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is GCSE English and Maths Grade 1
