Course Summary
This course is the first step for anyone wanting to move into a management role, either in their own organisation or another. It is suitable for employed adults who are new managers/supervisors or those looking for a promotion. It is also ideal for those working in the voluntary community sector who have taken on management roles and wish to gain skills to support them in this function.
The delivery mode of this course is flexible - learners can choose to attend in person or remotely via Microsoft Teams (any combination to suit).
This course is free to anyone living in the West Midlands Combined Authority Area.
Course Content
This course will provide you with the building blocks of a wide understanding of the purpose and operation of your management role.
During the 10 week programme you will cover all aspects of management including:
• Leadership roles and functions
• Achieving results using the various skills of your team members
• How to motivate staff
• Managing resources (people, time, money)
• Building successful relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders
• Managing change
• Lean Management techniques.
Course Assessment
Attendance to the sessions and contributions in lesson will be the form of assessment.
Qualifications
There is no formal qualification accredited to this programme, a college certificate will be issued to all completing learners.
Progression
Completion of this course will allow you to progress to other certified learning programmes in management, team leading or supervision. It can be used as evidence of your motivation and aptitude when you are seeking a pay rise, additional responsibility and/or seeking a career promotion.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but a good level of English and maths is desirable.
*Can I get help with fees?
Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:
- If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
- If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
- If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).
Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.
English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
