Animal Studies

Animal science is the study of the biology, care, and management of animals, particularly those that are domesticated for agriculture, companionship, or research purposes. It encompasses areas like animal nutrition, genetics, breeding, physiology, behavior, and welfare. The field plays a vital role in improving livestock production, ensuring animal health, and contributing to food security through advancements in sustainable farming practices. It also involves research on animal products like milk, meat, and wool, while considering ethical and environmental impacts.

There are many elements to animal science and depending on the level of course that you start with us you can look forward to studying many of these topics during your time with us including:

• Animal biology
• Animal welfare
• Advanced animal nutrition
• Exotic animal health and husbandry
• Principles of wildlife populations, ecology and conservation
• Farm livestock husbandry
• Understand animal health and diseases
• Breeding and genetics

You are assessed by a variety of methods including:
• Practical observations
• Oral questioning
• Written modular tests.
• Production of a portfolio of evidence
• Internally and externally set assignments and/or examinations
• A period of work experience between 50 and 450 hours depending on the level enrolled onto.

Protective clothing, footwear and writing materials are required.
