Course Summary

This Level 4 qualification aims to provide professional development opportunities for practitioners working in the school and college workforce. This qualification will embrace the wealth of experience, proven knowledge and skills of the learner in a teaching and learning environment.

It will challenge the learner in both daily practice and theoretical understanding. Learners will acquire and use skills of leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection as they complete the qualification through work-based learning opportunities.

Upon achievement of this qualification, the learner will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner. The Advanced Practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce.

Course Content

There are five units that you will cover and achieve on this qualification:

• Enabling individuals to learn
• Understand how to support children and young people to improve their mental health and well-being
• Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college
• Working with families and other professionals in a school or college setting
• Implementing change in school or college setting

Course Assessment

This qualification will be assessed using a portfolio of evidence.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, you will achieve an NCFE CACHE Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges QN: 603/2474/0

Progression

When qualified you could potentially move into the following job role:

• Higher Level Practitioner/Teaching Assistant
• internal progression at a higher level, including those with management responsibilities
• leadership, mentoring, supervision and management opportunities.

Entry Requirements

Learners will need to be employed in a Level 3 role in a learning environment (school or college), as they need to show competence in both skills and knowledge in order to achieve this qualification.

You must be at least 19 years of age to access funding for this programme and live in the West Midlands area

Funding may be available to support your learning as an adult (aged 19+) studying at Dudley College in the following circumstances:

  • If the course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and they have given us permission to offer it at no cost to you and live in the WMCA area.
  • If the course is part of the ‘Free Courses for Jobs’ government scheme and you are unemployed or working for a low wage.
  • If the course is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) / WMCA and you meet certain criteria (such as this being the first qualification of this type and level you are studying, or unemployed, or working for a low wage).

Your personal circumstances and the funding available to you will be discussed at enrolment, if would useful if you bring evidence including proof of income / benefits; proof of age (i.e. driving licence); prior qualifications.

English & Maths: If you have not previously achieved GCSE grade C or above in English and/or maths, you can study these for free.
