Course Content

This course will inspire and enthuse you to consider a career in the music industry providing you with the opportunity to develop practical skills whilst gaining a broad knowledge and understanding of the music industry. Weekly technical workshops will focus on the development of musical, production and compositional skills. There is an emphasis on application of these skills through live projects, productions and performances providing excellent vocational experience.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of practical and written assignments. External moderation of some units is likely.

Materials

All reading materials for this course are available from the college library. You will be required to pay £30 towards educational visits. If you are a musician, you will also need to provide your own specialist musical instruments, excluding drum kit and keyboards. A pair of headphones and a data drive are essential.

Entry Requirements

You must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English and maths. You will also need appropriate music experience, which could include:

• A Level 1 music qualification such as a BTEC or GCSE (which you could be currently studying or have already completed)
• A compositional portfolio produced on a professional software programme such as Sibelius, Logic Pro or Pro Tools.
• An ability to play an instrument or read music.
• Or any other demonstration of your music experience.

In addition, each applicant will be required to successfully complete a task during interview.
